Screen Smart Week is Coming to Cobbles!

May 1st to May 5th

Cobbles is again holding a Screen Smart Week! Students and families will challenge themselves and other classes to reduce screen time and enjoy a variety of other activities.

The purpose of Screen Smart Week is to increase students’ awareness of how much time they spend on screens (video games, television, internet activities, smart phones…) and to encourage them to choose other forms of recreation that support good health. These activities may include physical activities such as biking, hiking, or swimming, or other fun activities such as reading, doing crafts, enjoying nature, or just spending time with family and friends.

At the end of April, every student at Cobbles will receive a BINGO card full of fun ideas for Screen Smart Week. Students complete at least 5 activities in a row and turn in their cards on Monday, May 8th. There will be prizes for every student who participates, along with a chance to win a Barnes & Noble gift card! Classes with the highest participation will win a classroom pizza party!

FACT: LESS SCREEN TIME = MORE ACTIVITY TIME

Last year, about 200 students at Cobbles participated in Screen Smart Week!

Please support Screen Smart Week by encouraging your child to fill out their BINGO cards—and by taking part in some of the activities yourself! If you have any questions, please contact Heidi Szczepaniak (heidi.e.wirth@gmail.com) or Susan Gilbert-Collins (susangc@rochester.rr.com).

Screen Smart Week is presented by the Cobbles PTA

Check Out of Fundraising!
Everyone is busy and spending time with our families is top priority. Due to popular demand, the PTA is introducing a new program this year. Instead of selling coupon books or pushing cookie dough (though you still can!), opt out of fundraising and just write a check!

To continue our existing slate of programs, events, and Cobbles community support, the PTA needs to raise about $30 per student. We'll still send home our traditional fundraiser information — just in case you'd like to participate -- but writing a check is your guilt-free permission slip to directly return the coupon book and throw all the forms into the recycling bin!

With your 100% tax-deductible contribution to the Cobbles PTA, you'll know that all of your money will directly fund enriching programs and activities for the entire Cobbles community. Take a look at all the wonderful programs the PTA sponsors to the right. With enough support, we could discontinue the traditional fundraisers entirely— and maybe start a wish list!

Send in your donation today to help us meet our goal of raising $15,000 this year.
Checks should be made out to Cobbles PTA or you can visit the link below to donate online: https://cobblesptafund.cheddarup.com

We Need YOUR Help
Target is discontinuing the Take Charge of Education program, which for Cobbles PTA means that we will no longer be receiving around $1000 a year from Target's donation. This is a program that the PTA has been supporting and asking our families, teachers, and staff to support by opening a RedCard, designating Cobbles Elementary and then shopping at Target. Please take a minute to sign the petition so we can let Target Corporation know that we want them to keep this program at our school and all the other 120,000 school this program supported in the United States.

Penfield School District Trauma, Illness and Grief (TIG) Teams

Children are affected more than we might assume by major and minor losses. Traumatic events and serious illnesses or deaths of family members and friends as well as members of their school family can have a profound impact on these young lives. Even tragic community events, not directly experienced by a child, can leave an indelible mark.

Did you know that each school within the district has a team of staff members who have been trained by Monroe County Office of Mental Health to help students who are experiencing issues related to trauma, illness and grief?

Click here for full details on the TIG Teams.
